Hi everyone :)

I've never supplied my own shavings as my yard does this for me and it is included in the price. They stock the Countrywide ones, which are 8.49/bale... I am moving yards this year and need to start supplying my own. Which brand can I trust to be good enough, but not ridiculously cheap? What's a normal price for a bale of shavings?

I pay anywhere between £6 - £7.50 per bale of shavings from Mole Valley, definately dont buy the cheapest as its absolute rubbish, I go for a New Flake or Mendip Shavings,
Im sure if you brought in bulk you could get a better discount.
Ive swapped to straw for a bit as it was costing a fortune in shavings with two very messy ponies :)

I prefer to use thoroughbred but they have just gone up to £8.10 a bale. Have tried minimal dust (£6.95) but they are quite dusty so don't use often.

Try looking at local saw mills/log places as sometimes you can get their offcuts per tonne bag for about £10 which when mixed with a bag of thoroughbred usually last 2 weeks and make a nice bed.

I buy from a local feed supplier, I buy a pallet at a time (36) & negociated a price of under £7.00 per bale for 'Bedmax'. It's worth having a chat, don't just accept the price they have the bales marked at. My negociating skills are not good but I just told them I had been let down by another supplier, who they knew, and I said they could have my business if they would more or less price match. They did by knocking around 75p per bale off normal price. They are happy as they have a regular buyer & are making money. I'm happy as htey always have supplies in for me.;)
