Having just worked out how much it's going to cost us to bed the new boxes, what do you pay per bale for the above?
We use a mixture of miscanthus and shavings, and the prices from different suppliers locally seem to vary by as much as over £1 a bale..
Am awaiting quotes from three suppliers at the moment, does it pay to buy straight from the producers?
We can probably cope with 100 bales at a time.

I pay £5.60 for a bale of Mendip woodshavings for 30 bales delivered. I used to use Hunter shavings but got fed up when they kept degrading and became so dusty. Tried Bedmax but at £6.20 ea found these too expensive and not very absorbent. I find Mendip woodshavings dust free and absorbent and cover my large horse's box which is 15' x 12'.

local hunter shavings £6.50 at the moment they did go up to £6.90 but have come back down i can get some others which are £5.50 but they are only 3/4 the size

Where do you get your sundown yellow from please? The factory put me on to my local supplier who only does the red and they told him (when I asked for yellow) that it was experimental(!). I emailed the factory again and they have not replied.

The red is a pain becaue it has enormous shavings in as well.

try nigel dunn hes in somerset, but used to do shavings and was always good on prices. ive not had dealings with him for years so he may not supply now... could be worth a google!

I get mine from Corbetts in Malpas (01948 860272) I don't know whereabouts you are though!
Your supplier sounds like a bit of a dead loss, surely he can get a pallet of the Yellow in at the same time as the red? Have you got any neighbouring suppliers you could try? I've known of S Yellow for years, at the start it wasn't chopped so small and was mixed in with shavings, presume that is now S Red. The Yellow seems much easier to use.

I buy in bulk by the pallet, works out for 3 pallets at £4.50 a bale delivered. The more you buy the cheaper it is. I think there are 30 bales on a pallet. If we buy 5 pallets it works out at £4.20 per bale. I tend to share with my friends locally. (its also CASH, no VAT)!!!!

Maddeningly I'm only a few miles up the road from the factory. I asked the factory if I could buy a palletload; they will deliver me 600 bales or none. We didn't discuss at that time which product although I'd asked for yellow. When I asked if I could collect they went silent on me!

Weird. I'll try to find another supplier, trouble is when I rang the factory they only gave me the one name.

I love the smell of the product!

Try Redpost, they are not too far from you. They will deliver but obviously cheaper if you take the lorry and they can load it up for you. I think their hunter shavings are around £5.

Thanks to a forum member with a feed store I'm now sorted for miscanthus, and am ringing round for shavings, redpost normally deliver but their prices are now quite high..
That's what shocked me into asking, when I saw what I was paying per bale (CCJ likes the dust extracted ones) I nearly fell over....

They are also introducing a charge per item delivery (high diesel cost so understandable) so am shopping locally from now on.
