Oh good luck, how exciting. We have been lucky enough to grade mares without them being assessed, due to them having outstanding performance records. So we had them DNA'd and that was it.

We have had a mare graded with the IDHS. Basically, your turnout is the same as a show ring turnout, and then the inspectors like to see them walk and trot. Anyway before I waffle cause I'm good at that this is a link to grading.

This will tell you what you need to know, good luck.

Hi

We are going to Houghton Le Spring grading on the 22nd September.

First time at a SHBGB grading, will prepare as we would for a show and take it as it comes.

Good luck with your day at Addington.

Another SHB virgin here!

I have had mares graded with IDHS but never with SHB. We are at Manchester on 2nd September.
Do we get sent times or anything?

Can I jump on the Grading bandwagon too and ask a question :D

My mares are being graded by the SHB GB at home in September, Do you think I still need to dress myself up as it is a bit more of an informal grading ?

I did ask about the mares and I dont need to plait them as long as they are smartened up.

Thank you.

We had ours done at home and yes, and basically do what you would if you were at a normal grading. Ours were all bathed and plaited but a pulled mane will look ok. Husband wore hacking jacket.shirt/tie beige trousers and his riding boots so he could run..
The SHBGB people were lovely, accepted we hadn't a handy flat field as it threw it down and allowed us to trot them in a nearby one, they were very thorough and took quite a while with each mare.
