Hi, I am new to the forum so hello everyone!

I have had my horse, Lizzy vetted today as I am selling her. However during the vetting the vet noticed a large hard lumpy mass above Lizzy's eye (all around the sub orbital depression). It feels bony to me, not soft at all. I have had Liz for 3 years and not took any notice of it until now, when it's been pointed out to me. Now I can see that her right side is more lumpy than the left. I have booked her in for a head x-ray tmrw but i'm really worried it's something sinister?! Could it be a cancerous lump? I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed in the 3 years I have had her.

Would appreciate any advice

Sarah

I have a 17 year old mare who has a similar 'lump' - hard and quite diffuse - in the same place. She has had it for the 7 years I have owned her and I don't think it has got any bigger (if it has it would be less than 10%.)

My vet examined her, mentioned 3-4 things it COULD be (from a bony, trauma-related 'lump' to some form of cancerous growth and a few more I can't recall!) None of them were 'treatable' so we decided against a biopsy to determine exactly what it was. The only downside is she needs an extra large browband!
