Well my daughter and I set off at 5.30 this morning for the BD regional final at the college equest. centre. We got there and plaited up and didn't realise the time was ticking away so she was a bit late getting on.He seemed a bit subdued probably because he had been out all night .The rider before her went in with a caller ,which wasn't allowed so there was a long debate and she came out and no sooner my daughter got to the arena the bell went.During his test some of the flowers blew over and spooked him and he didn't seem to go forward, in fact we thought it was the worst test he has done.
The scores went up and he got 69.5% which we thought quite generous. The class finished and they were 4th and I collected her rossette. I looked at her sheet and apart from a 5 for the spook it was all 8's, one 9 and a 7. I started to add it up and it came to 155 thats 77.5% so I took it back and they were very sorry and yes SHE WON THE CLASS.
Partoow then arrived to kindly warm her up for the final and he seemed to be going much better, more forward and with lift. The arenas were blowing about a bit [silly light plastic boards and flowers every where] and he did look at some flowers that had fallen over but it looked a good test ,I'd say one of his best. The score went up 65.8% both judges gave her the same mark but with other riders they marked very up and down. The judge at C liked him and placed him 6th overall but the judge at B marked others a lot higher ,so they came 10th. Not a disgrace .We then realised Partoow had taken her bit that she lent us home and we had no bit to ride in the presentation and my daughters husband had gone home in the car an hour ago and it had the horsebox keys in it. Well we borrowed a bit and they drove back with the keys ,so all is well
The winner got 71% and second got 70% [beat it in the other class] but nearly everyone was around 66% why do they mark so low in a final. There were some lovely tests and way above prelim standard so surely most marks should have been 8's for good

Well done, have you got any pics???

Congrats on winning the warm up class, and congrats on the other test.
I do wonder about dressage marking sometimes and at times it is very frustrating.

Well Done to your daughter.

I found the same at the regionals, all the tests were 64. something %. There were the odd few that were higher or lower but I would say around two thirds of the class were on that mark.

Prelim, thought we would do petplan novice and looking at some of the horses today glad we did. Also it was the only regional we could get to and it would be hard to do both unless we didn't do any warm ups.
The markers and boards were terrible for some riders and just took off and flipped over

Yeay, well done to Claire. She has worked so hard and deserves it. Great that Partoow came along to support too. Some pics would be rather nice!

Well done - I don't fully understand dressage, but I do understand that regional anythings are very competitive and 10th sounds fab to me.

I can't understand qualifications to the nationals .In the rule book it says Rule 139 Q To qualify from a summer or winter regional championship to the national championships eligable combinations must gain 65% or above unless awarded a wild card. But at the show they said only 2 qualify and the rest will be down to wild cards which are awarded on Aug 15th on website and no one must phone.BD is the most confussing thing in the horse world.Thought we had no chance but maybe they give out quite a few.Anyone understand it

Well done, didnt know you were there!!!! They said on the board about qualification. Depends on class etc, and then how many people enter. For instance in my class there were 34, so on the board I think it said something like 10 - 20, then 1 qualify, 20 - 36 then 2 qualify, 36 - 45, 3 qualify... etc.. etc... BUT you must have over 65%. So if you won class, and did not meet 65% you would not qualify! If you were 3rd and with high score say 69% you may be in for a chance of a wild card.. normally about 6-10 in each class are wild cards from around all the regions, at Nationals there are say 20 in each class. If one region was poor turn out, poor scores, then the other regions with high turn out, high score get more of a chance... hope this makes sense!!!
