Shedding coats- Cushings

Yes again, who's horses have started to shed?? My suspected Cushings pony is very mildly sheding over his ribs and bum. By this I mean I get way less than half a handfull of hair when groomed all over. Like many cushing sufferers when they start out, he isn't [as of yet] shedding at all from his neck or shoulders. He has got a curly coat down his spine, and stifle folds. With a slight curl coming down from his whithers and across his sides. He is 20 and we think a shetlandX.

So a few questions for those that can be bothered

1 Have your horses started shedding and to what extent?
2 How quickly does the curly cushings coat come on?
3 What is treatment should he need it in the future?
4 How often might he need treatment and costs?

Our boy has cushings and is 29 this year. He was diagnosed 10 years ago. He has no specific medication for this just a veterans cube, oil and glucosomine and all hay and feeds fed damp. He now does not shed at all so we clip him in spring and again mid summer. This year it has been quite hard to keep weight on him and I feel that realistically this may be his last summer. He has had a wonderful retirement and has been a pony in a million.

My Cushings boy of 26 has a blanket (ish) clip and his hair is not coming out even if you pull it hard. Since diagnosis his clip has shown until about June .... I will look at last years pictures and may come back with a more definate on this one

His coat is 2 1/2 inches long on his bum

My boys coat started to go curly over the summer of 2005 and then when his winter coat came through that year the curls were very prominent. However since being on the Pergolide his coat is fantastic in the summer, but a hairy monster in the winter!

He is on 1 1/2mg of Pergolide at day and is a 14.3 Welsh x Hackney.

I last paid £105 for 200 tablets ... but you will have to work out the daily cost, as I am rubbish as that at the best of times

I think you have posted a couple of times, so must be very worried about it, but please be assured that if you manage them correctly they can live very long and happy lives. Cushings does not kill a horse, but unfortunately they have a reduced immune system, so are susceptible to other problems.

I have two cobs 22 and 27 years old with suspected Cushings. Both are still regularly ridden and have nice coats. They are each on one 250 microgram of Pergolide each day. The Pergolide costs £35 for 100. I also have them on Formula Feet (Developed by Robert Eustace of the Laminitis Clinic) each day.

Correct me if im wrong but can you still get the Pergolide from the chemist rather then paying the high prices from the vet?

Both of my Shetlands are casting and neither of them have Cushings, one of them more than your pony by the sounds of it, the hair flies off him in the wind!
