I have to say in 30 years I have never come across this so I'm a bit stumped. The colt is absolutely ridiculous around sheep and lambs (cows too but not so bad) and desensitising/exposure isn't having much of an effect. We do little walks out in hand and had just got to the point of being able to walk past a field of sheep or cattle without losing the plot. Then the lambs arrived!
Last night we had high blowing, shaking, all manner of advanced dressage moves, trying to run off, head tossing, attempts at spinning and then rearing and biting. This is from a boy who is normally so chilled you could trust him with your granny. I don't think it was genuine terror, more acting the part so to speak, so the biting and rearing got a short sharp smack, which stopped them. But we still had all the rest. Obviously I''ll just have to persist but it really was OTT. He's getting gelded in a couple of weeks, and of course the spring grass isn't helping. But does anyone have any additional tips? I can't turn him out with or next door to lambs but there are some in sight.
