Took my new boy out last night to a training show (probably more for my benefit than his!) and what can I say- he was an absolute star!
Before I bought him I was told he was difficult to load, didn't travel well, didn't travel with other horses. So on Sunday we took him on a trial run with another horse; he was great, not a bother with loading or travelling, with or without another horse, so happy days!
Took him to a local place for the jumping last night, entered the 70s. Have to admit I was absolutely terrified as it has been quite a while since I jumped a 'proper' course, and it would have been a good 7 years or so since he did a course.. blind leading the blind! We were very rushed when we arrived, which did little to ease my nerves- didn't even have time to walk the course.
Warmed up, he was a bit 'looky' but no real spookiness. Jumped nicely enough once we got going! Took him into the arena, then he decided to throw a hissy fit
spun around just as we were approaching the first jump. However, he had the good grace to do this just before we went through the start markers..
Ended up with a (technically!) double clear, so I am delighted with him! He was very good considering he wasn't too sure- lots of growling from me to get him going. First round was a bit sticky in place but he really found his stride in the second round and gave me a lovely keen ride. He does love his jumping and turns from lazy plod into some kind of super-tank
So this marks Sheep's first frilly- okay, so just a clear round rosette- but still! No action shots, but here he is just in the field after we got back, because he's such a handsome boy.
