As title, does anyone know if a 6-slot sheep feeder would work for 5 miniature shetlands? Not sure if the slots would be big enough. Anyone know how how the dimensions of a sheep's head compare with a miniature shetlands?

I would be very worried about them getting stuck inbetween the bars mine did when i used one of the cradle type hayracks with them. I know use an old big (reaar tyre) tractor tyre, just put something on the floor underneath to stop it getting horrible then put the tractor tyre down. they can climb in (which they do ! ) but they are not at risk of getting caught anywhere and it keeps the hay in one place.

i use 2 stacked on top of each other for the big horses, to stack them up i just drilled holes in and knotted ropes on the inside of each tyre to keep them together worked brilliantly :D I didn't want my weanling getting caught up in the hay rack last winter and it worked brilliantly. best of all they were free too :D local farmer had them stacked up on the yard and didn't know what to do with them, so i helped him out too. to stack them up i just drilled holes in and knotted ropes on the inside of each tyre to keep them together worked brilliantly :D

Thanks peeps. I think the best thing for me to do is to trot along to my local agricultural suppliers with my tape measure. I posted this on f/b too and it turns out that a local friend of mine who has her own backing and breaking business uses sheep hay rings so I'm not too worried. The one I'm looking at has solid sides up to a foot or so before the slots so I don't think my minis would try to walk through.

If you are thinking of one of these: - http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mv...r;jsessionid=66B8F2FD171B35726FF05D9322C52B7A

Then a friend uses these and has no problem at all! She has everything from TB's, retired ponies and section a's. Hope that's helped you!

I use one for my shetlands. They have their ossychaff in it. We made a top for it and covered it with pond liner to keep the chaff dry. We put a whole bale in it so they can get it when they want. It's sugar free! I have never had any problems with these rings.
