We give our sheep the Extra high energy crystalyx (makers of horslyx), does anyone know of if would harm a pony if she was licking at it too? As she needs to be kept in the same field.
Hardly given that copper is highly toxic to sheep and thus their licks wouldn't generally have copper in them. A horse lick would kill sheep but not really vice versa.Think the copper content would poss be to much for a horse
Must be getting muddled with the cattle ones then, but they are sheep, cattle and horse licks for a reason, each contain ingredients not suitable for other livestock....i certainly would never have dreamt of letting my horses near the cattle and sheep licks for that reason.
Yes there are some which are molasses and urea to help digesting fibre, but the others are just minerals, like Horselix but for sheep.I agree with this, but try telling my 16 2 WB mare, built like a tank she can't have it, all of mine try to get these sheep licks on the way to the barn, all the rest accept that at best they get a little taste, the WB mare is like a pig in a trough, it literally takes two hands on her headcollar to get her head up, then I'm like Eddie Eagle in the mud getting her away from temptation, the licks we avoid smell strongly of molasses

Well I've been looking at the difference between the crystalyx and horslyx, they contain very similar ingredients, the horslyx actually contains more sugar! They are both molasses based and the horslyx contains more of a lot of the minerals/trace elements.
