I would really like one for Baron. I cant use one at the moment as he has a riser pad under his saddle, but as we are getting a new saddle within the next month I would really like to treat myself.

I like the look of the Bartl ones, I have a bartl saddle cloth which is very good quality but I wondered if the half pads are any good?

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. I would like to spend as little as possible really, but dont want to waste my money on bad quality. Would rather pay the extra and have it last.

Sorry to be thick and not having a go...but if you are getting a new saddle (to fit ?) why would it need a half pad? I know they look pretty but if the saddle fits before the pad, surely it doesn't with it?? Just trying to understand this latest accessory...???

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but will you be using the half pad on it's own?

I'm considering buying one to solve the problems I have with the depth of numnahs with my WH saddle.

Nuumed do nice ones

I bought one on the recommendation of my saddler and my physio for Thumper.

I purchased a Stephens one - which is quite frankly the most beautiful thing I think I've ever owned. HOWEVER I have just been told to stop using it as my horse is no longer benefiting from it.

Essentially because of the muscle wastage Thumper had around his withers the saddler recommended one to give the saddle a better fit - but now that the muscle wastage is almost resolved it is compromising the fit of the saddle - hence having to stop using it.

I wouldn't buy anything until you've got your new saddle for the horse and discussed what to put underneath it with your saddler - because in many instances it may just be too thick - and they cost an arm and a leg

I've now just bought a Numed one - which is still lovely, but thinner.

So do you use all your saddle with nothing underneath? I am led to understand that they provide a comfy layer underneath the saddle for the horse, help with shock absorbsion etc. The part that the saddle sits on is not really much thicker than a numnah, and is certainly not as thick as things like poly pads.

I am not getting it as an accesory, I think they look really nice and should benefit my horse.

Oh am going to get another pad to now!!! Hmm may go for black fluff this time!!!
TIP: DON'T cuddle your new pad otherwise it'll never get near your horse!

If you are going to use a pad under your saddle you need tohave the saddle fitted to your horse, including the pad underneath, as this will affect the fit of your saddle - restricting the space over the withers.

I have a Bartl, a Stephens & a Fusion sheepskin half pads. To be honest there is little to choose between them. They are all top quality, well made & nicely shaped to fit the horses back. It's down to personal choice really.

I've got the Lemieux half pad, which can also be converted to be a front or rear riser pad, or both, with special memory foam inserts. Or you can just use it without. Our saddle fitter has no problems with us using it as it isn't overly thick, but does a great job of spreading pressure.
