I've got the pink half pad and I adore it. Twas sent to me from Canada. I want to take advantage of my sis's visit next month and buy another (not pink this time, honest!) in the UK. Anyone bought either a Bartl or Stephens pad or numnah? Would you recommend? Anyone suggest another brand?
Thanks

I have two Nuumed. I think one cost £45 (sheepskin) and the other was lambswool and cost £90.

I also have a Stephen's half pad which is lambswool and it is gorgeous. I had my last one for about 18months and it was washed tons of times, due to Ellie having to wear it all the time due to her back problem. It ended up dying on me. I wrote to the company who sent me a new one the next morning. Excellent company. They are about £65 I think

I put it on a 30 degree machine wash with a gentle spin. I also use Woolite soap.

They think the skin just dried out but still reckoned it should have lasted longer than 18 months. They changed it without any question at all.

I think the secret is to just brush them off when you use them and wash as infrequently as you can possible manage. Wash on the lowest temp as you can with a wool soap powder. Then dry naturally, not on a radiator or anything.

Ellie as you probably know has bad scarring on her back and can only be ridden in lambswool (it is the only thing that I can ride for hours in without any problem at all) so of course they have to be washed really often.

Ah, yes, I brush mine off and wash in woolite

I bought one here and it shrank a bit

annoyed me a bit, but it still fits ok.
PF, being a thin-skinned TB, gets rubs (very mild, but unsightly) in any other numnah.
How did Ellie get her scars? Was it rainscald or am I getting you mixed up with someone else?

Yes it was rainscald I believe

I can't even begin to imagine how bad it was but she had it at least seven years ago that I know of and the farrier said she looked like she had been 'boiled in the bag'

I had the vet yesterday for her tetanus booster and he couldn't believe the difference in her now though and how much the scarring had reduced. So that was excellent. He said she looks like an appalloosa now and is probably worth a fortune

She does have a huge amount of white hair poor thing!

I have the shires one too, much cheaper then the stephens and bartyl ones. though obviuosly not quite as good a quality (its not real sheepskin) but it does the job i want it to do and i like it.

I have got a stephens seat saver for my old saddle as it was soooo uncomfy and that was great, so i imagine the half pad would be off a similar quality which i would reccomend

I have a Stephens half pad in brown for my bay horse which has been washed and seems fine. However my daughter has a black one and used this on her piebald cob and the colour stained his white bit a dark red!!! This was difficult to remove and definately not on for showing. I know they are on clearance on at least one website and there is now a warning in the smallprint about the dye.

I was looking at the Stephens ones the other day. Are these the ones with the gel pads where the pressure points are?

I would like to get one for comps but then I think my horse will get such little wear from it that it won't be worth it. Therefore, I would have to get two (ie one for comp and one for every day) and then replace my polypad saddle cloths with thin saddle cloths to go under the half pads. In all it would cost me about £200!

I just don't know whether it is worth it.

I have a 'Bartl' sheepskin lined saddle cloth, a 'Stephens' brown sheepskin half pad & a 'Fusion' sheepskin half pad. These all get cleaned using the Bartl cleaning solution & they come up really well. They are expensive compared with the Faux sheepskin pads but they remain looking good for a very long time. Any of the ones mentioned I'd recommend, they are all great.

Shires do both sheepskin & faux sheepskin, they are available off 'Barnstormers' :-

I have a Griffin Nu Med Hi Wither half pad which is brilliant. My horse has v.high withers and so normal numnah's are useless. He is really comfy in this one and it stays high as its supposed to!!

I put it in the washing machine and it comes out great.
