During my jumping lesson last night, my instructor suggested I should try my pony in a sheepskin noseband for jumping as he tends to approach the jumps with his head held quite and high and doesn't always seem to notice the jump until he is a few strides away.

His teeth, back and saddle are all fine so I know it's just a habit.

I just wondered how successful sheepskin nosebands are and also if there is anything else I could try to encourage him to lower his head.

Any advice much appreciated.

They're not there just to look nice, they help to lower the horses head.

You could try one and see if it helps.

I used and still sometimes use a sheepskin noseband on my Connemara he used to stick his head up really high before a jump then crash through it,,,the nose band did help alot

A friend who who stuck its head relly high jumping schooled for a few weeks in an elasticated standing martingale, that also worked.
