i'd like to buy a full (real!) sheepskin numnah with rolled edges, for hunting and long hacking over the winter.

what are peoples suggestions for best value and best quality?

Griffin Nuumed. Have just bought one very reasonably on ebay - the old 'bought and only used twice' spiel, but it looks brand new to me. Paid less than half the catalogue price.
Have had Mattes ones before but they look rather tired now.

i've had no luck on ebay so far - search for sheepskin, and get a load of naff fake stuff.

is the nuumed 'lightweight' wool as nice as the normal stuff? they have these on ride-away for a reasonable price...

NuuMed are not half as nice as things like LeMieux, Mattes etc. which are much deeper and softer. I spent half of last winter with my cold hands buried in different types of sheepskin/lambskin numnahs so I have personal experience!

Having always been an advocate of the Christ Sheepskin (the most expensive one!) I have now switched to LeMieux available from Horse Health Wessex. Cheaper, just as well made and last forever

Griffin Nuumed - another fan.

Others such ast Mattes and Stephens, I find, are too thick and can compromise the fit of the saddle.

I need thick under this saddle - mare is still growing, and this saddle is right with a polypad + neoprene pad .. so thick sheepskin will probably be about right.

'Roma' do a very thick one - found in Robinsons or Ride away catalogue at around the £60 mark.
Very thick and luxurious and use mine for hunting, and so far has washed well.

Glad you like it - they were at Dublin this year and had the most fabulous stand. I could have happily bought one of everything. I restrained myself to a couple of half pads and numnahs though!

I love sheepskin numnahs

I have a Stephens brown lambskin one for sale, brown fit 17-18 ins saddle, 40quid, hardly used. Pm me if interested, cannot be bothered with the hassle of Ebay

Lemiuex....they also do one with front and rear risers to aid fitting, but only in half pad....sheepskin is so soft that although mine didn't do what I wanted I'm keeping for when saddle is refitted. For now I'm sticking with my MT Accupressure pad which may also work for you.
