came back from show jumping my boy after him being unusually sluggish to find a swelling just below his withers, he has a wintec 2000 saddle and i have checked the size which should according to the measure guage thingy fit him nicely?, i thought about putting a gel or sheepskin pad under his saddle? does anybody think that would help? even if i had to make the saddle wider aswell? im going ot get his back checked definitely, but it was last checked at christmas so i want to rule out the most obvious thing first :S

I'd say get horses back and saddle checked first - it could be that the saddle isn't actually fitting him properly. Also, how big is the swelling - is it on both sides or just one? It could be a bite that's been irritated - particularly if you don't usually have a problem.

yep done that

i changed the screws aswell to brand new ones , to see if that helped!

The guage thingy is rubbish - you are better fitting the gullet directly to the horse's back. But anything other than a medium and the Wintec isnt really suitable. And anything other than a TB, and it will be rocking backwards and forwards.

I always wear a prolite for jumping - it disperses the pressure. When you jump you put uneven pressure on the saddle and therefore you need to disperse pressure points. Sheepskins dont really do this - its more for remedial type horses.
