I seem to be spending more and more nights working away in Sheffield. Usually im away Monday- Wednesday, and i am hating sitting in a hotel room when it is so lovely outside each evening.

I have decided to try and find somewhere to ride, and wanted to get any suggestions.

I dont really mind if it is hacking or i could probably do with a few lessons to sharpen up! Just want a nice friendly place, maybe someone needs help with a horse??

Im more or less happy to sit on most things.. as long as they are not complete loonies!

Anyhow, just wanted to hear what suggestions people will come up with. I tend to stay meadowhall side of Sheffield (yup... shopping is tasking over in the evenings!) or crosspool way, but can change hotel easily...

Hoping there will be some suggestions...

Thanks xx

Hi, you could try Parklands (Matt Sampson's parents' yard) which is near M1 J31, only do lessons as far as I know, Smeltings Farm is another place often recommended, Snowdon Farm has been for sale and I think is changing/has changed hands now so not sure what's going on there but was a good place, Clough Fields is in Crosspool not sure what the tuition is like now or if they will do lessons advanced enough for you to benefit from. Most yards in Sheffield are limited to lessons now.

If you want hacking you could head out in to the Peak District and try out Haddon House Riding Stables or Ladybooth Equestrian Centre.

Or, if you want to find someone with a horse to help out, check out the notice boards or put up wanted ads at Horse & Rider (Crookes), Parklands, Stablemate (Totley), Irvings (Sheffield side of Chesterfield), Bromley Farm (Wortley), Pennine Country Store (Wortley again) or Argo (Penistone).

Hope that's given you some ideas!

Brilliant!! many thanks for that! I have emailed a few to see what they can do!

Fingers crossed... im packing my spare hat and boots, just in case!!

Thanks xx

Hi

Where in or near Sheffield is good for you to get to? I have a horse that I wouldn't mind someone else hacking out with me! He is a tb and sensible most of the time but needs a strong confident rider!
This may not be what your looking for! You may just want a nice easy hack! But if interested let me know!

if you are staying near Crosspool then try Janines place Cloughfields 0114 2665162
if you want to come further north sheffield then theres Mallard house that does decent hacking in the wharncliffe woods as well as lessons 0114 2887743
or Grensoide equestrian (aka Barnes Green) 0114 2402548 (theres a hotl just of the M1 thats very close to both of these)

Im just outside Sheffield at Barnsley, and also have a horse (16.2hh IDxTB) that I need to find a rider for so I can hack my youngster out with if you want - shes not a novice ride but shes safe, if your interested

wow, thanks people! I work close to Sheffield Airport/ meadowhall but have a car so can get about. Would be reluctant to drive miles and miles (as have just done 160 miles to get up here!)

Icemaiden - I would be happy on a TB, please could you let me know where you are in Sheffield and i can look at doing a routefinder to see how long it would take me.

Daisy - ID x TB Mare... just what my girl is! If you could also message me your postcode so i can see how long it would take.

Ive contacted a few yards and lessons are going to cost quite a bit to do this every week... so if there is anyone i could help out, you would also be doing me a favour! xx

Really appreciate the contact numbers and advice people xxxx
