hello,
anyone from sheffield?
i'm currently at university in sheffield but i don't know the area very well. i have been offered the horse that i am currently riding for a lady but i have nowhere local to move him too. he is currently out in killamarsh, which is an hour and a half bus journey for me which is OK to do once a day but not really doable twice a day. i have no car so i was wondering if anyone knows of any grazing or livery yards that are within a shorter bus journey from ecclesall road?
I used to help out at clough fields so I know that is a bit above my budget.
Anyone local who may know of grazing for rent? Although I would prefer somewhere with a menage for riding.
any help is greatly appreciated...many thanks =)

I used to live in Sheffield and Killamarsh is a heck of a way from Ecclesall Road area. Have you tried around the Dronfield/Dronfield Woodhouse area? Thats closer to where you are. Totley, Dore areas are too. Not too familiar with any Livery yards round there, I just know areas.

yes i used to ride another horse out that way in wortley. 3 hour trip to get there...but lets not go into that haha. didn't do it for too long!

Yes, on a little family run farm.
There is Grenoside Equestrian Centre down the road, and woodland trails livery yard. I do, however know of a couple who were looking for somebody to share their grazing a few weeks ago.
Its off the bus route on woodhead road in the woodland a bit, but a busy area and lots of horses there. Could ask them and pm you their number if theyre still looking for somebody? No menage tho, but woodland trails place local and nice and we hire the school there :) x

Fulwood,Dore,Totley, Stannington (in that order) are nearest to Eccy Rd. Stannington is the furthest away and would take a while on the bus twice a day. Fulwood is bikeable (tho there are buses too). There are a few livery places but you may struggle to find a cheapish one that a) does grass livery/all year turnout and b) also has a school. Only ones I know are Cloughfields type price but you could try Fulwood Hall,or Andrew Clarke's farm (Hangram Lane, or Smeltings on Ringinglow Rd (tho that's an RS too) or there's one out near Redmires Dam(don't know it's name, soz) or,further away in Dore, there's Farnsworth's or Ann Barbers/Far Nova or Newfield Lane. I've never liveried at any of those,so can't vouch but know people at a few/who've been at some of them.

aah thanks but the bus is the only way I could get there as I don't have a car! Is woodland trails a livery yard? do you know much about it?
=)

thanks so much venevidivici! fulwood being in biking distance appeals because i hate waiting for buses. i know you haven't been on the yards you mentioned but do you know where i might get the details for the fulwood yards from?
cheers

They don't really advertise as such,so it's be a case of just calling in,I'm afraid. Fulwood Hall is on Harrison Lane (about 5min walk from the bustop on Crimicar Lane, top of Fulwood), Clarke's is on Hangram Lane,(5mins from Flwd Hall),Smeltings Farm is on Ringinglow Rd (about 2min from Clarke's & *may* be in the phone book(am sure you'd probably find a number for Clarke's,(which is a beef cattle farm) and Smeltings if you googled them) and the Redmires Dam one is on Redmires Rd. There's also liveries at Mayfield Alpacas in the Mayfield Valley(they also have a school and are probably in the phone book/googleable). Happy hunting!
