One of my sheltie x falabella's has probs with her teeth. She is 10 now and when I got her I asked our equine dentist to come and take a look. She was horrified as it appears the mare has less teeth than she should have and the top teeth are settling in the spaces in the lower jaw and causing inflammation. I queried this with her previous owner who said she had never had any probs and had regular checks on her teeth. My equine dentist then sedated my mare for the work to be done. It took ages with much drilling and filing but the weird thing is my mare had no obvious probs prior to this and since that visit 6 months ago has it seems lost teeth in the field as I've picked up three. She is also now having probs chewing and has started quidding. She is due to be seen next week about this but I wonder why she has had so many problems since the dentist treated her and none apparently before hand. Has anyone had this type of problem with their horses teeth - vet reckons its genetic......which is not good as she was a brood mare before we got her!
