Previously, Star has suffered from recurrent conjunctivitis and 'scarring' on the surface of the eye. This summer she was referred to Professor Knottenbelt at Liverpool Equine Unit, where the 'scar' was diagnosed as a squamous cell carcinoma which had been causing the conjuntivitis as it grew across the surface of her eyeball.....................gulp.
Following chemotherapy, radio therapy and (last tuesday) eyeball surgery to remove the mass, Star is home, the eye is intact and still in her head, and she felt well enough to behave like a lunatic in the indoor school this morning - bucking, squealing, galloping and doing the most amazing sliding stops
The staff at the Equine Unit are amazing and looked after her beautifully - her white bits were so clean! Thanks to them, I've got my gorgeous girly back
