Got a bone tonpick with all of you lot who told me to look forward to the terrible twos-puzzle isn't two til June and is already trying every trick in the book!

Today's latest is rearing when she doesn't want to behave. This morning went like this. Turned dotty out as puzzle hates going out alone. Came back for puzzle. Put headcollar on. Asked her to back away from the door. Puzzle rears and smacks me in face with knee on way up. I swear profusely!! Then ask her to back up again. Then did some basic groundwork.

Then got into field, turned her round to undo headcollar, she rears. Stand holding end of leadrope until she decides to behave herself. 5mins later she stops rearing and I undo headcollar!!

Got a thumping headache now and have bitten lip but apart from that it's fine.

On the plus side, after 6months of practicing she's finally learnt to rear!! Xx

I am sure you don't really need to be told this.... but you really need to put her in her place before she gets any bigger!

Hope your bruising goes down soon!

Thanks :) I'm lucky with Her to be honest, she does try it on but normally only for a day or two then she learns it's unacceptable.

Watching her roll in the field at the moment-in the mud-rubbing it right into her mane
And tail I bathed yesterday!!! Arghhhhh!!

eek.........poor you! Rearing from the ground is the one thing I cannot handle, I was kicked in the face as a kid by a rearing youngster and think it stems from that and it terrifies me so well done you for even getting her out after she had hurt you! Get some arnica for your lip to stop it swelling up. Other than suggesting leading on a long line and training halter until she realises it is not acceptable all I can really say is to keep yourself safe when dealing with her. I have a scar on my forehead from a front hoof and was really lucky, I will never forget literally seeing stars!

I`d be using a lunge line and not a rope...alot safer, if she reared and pulled away from you then you dont have the the strength or the length to hold on, with a lunge you`ve got the extra length so if she did bugger off you use your weight through your hip and turn her....
My youngster was a rearer, to the field, from the field, being groomed anything he didnt like he`d try and get out of by rearing, bought a dually, led him by using a lunge line, taught him basic manners, is now an angel.

Thanks guys =]

Luckily I do have an extra long lead rope for her that I lead her in constantly - 99% of the time I'm very aware that she may be naughty and so I've always got the length but I was just so unprepared today!! I was just really stupid.

Butter wouldn't melt in her mouth tonight...! Will be extra careful though. Need to get her in the school soon to work some manners back into her.

She's so funny, she's naughty and then looks at me like "Oops. Now mummy is mad. Quick, do the I'm a pretty Puzzy face!"

Lip although split on the inside is fine on the outside thank god as I turn 21 tomorrow and I wouldnt have enjoyed that!!

As someone has already said, she needs putting in her place and needs to LEARN not just get told that you are in charge. Otherwise you will soon have a 2 year old that clobbers you in the face ALL the time.

If she was out more often, she would get put in her place in the pecking order by the other horses anyway, which would help the situation slightly. But it is you that has to handle her, and she should be shown that you are the boss.

I do not allow for a horse with no manners, under any circumstances.

makes me glad mine never did the terrible 2s she is nearly 3 now 30th april and has not put a foot wrong since i brought her as a rising 2 year old!

AAhhh she's storing it ALL up for when you get on board!!!! lol!!!!!

OP My boy got very naughty at the turn of the year, he's also 2 this year, I got a second hand 'be nice halter' and haven't looked back, I've also started doing a tiny bit of lunge work and bitted him to give him something else to think about. Fingers crossed all well so far. Try to nip it in the bud before it becomes an issue..... good luck hun.

She is already bitted as I showed her last year but I definitely need to get the poles out in the school with her etc to play with. Loads of fun to be had (when shes not smacking me in the face ;))!!

Her haircut isnt that bad anymore ;) its not great though.....!
