My 4 year old pony, who is reasonably fit, pants alot. As soon as she stops working (even just 1 20m circle in trot) she starts panting when you walk. She did it alot in the summer but i thought it was just the heat getting to her as she is Iron grey (still very black!) Just asking for any suggestions......starting to wonder if its time for Mr vet, but she doesnt seem to bothered by it!

Any Ideas??

No reasonably fit horse should be panting after a 20m circle in trot.I would definitely want the vet to take a look asap. What is her TPR at rest.I would definitely think there is something wrong.

i kind of have this probalem with maddie..she aint very fit..but she's fit enough.
she's very heavily built and usually has alot of weight to carry..i believe this has something to do with it, also she cannot carry herself properly either which wont help.
but if your horse is fit...the vet may know best

Got this problem with one of mine, vet has diagnosed mild COPD.
Take your horses respiration rate when resting, should be 8-12 breaths per minute, any higher and deffo get vet id say!
