Hi
Any suggestions about keeping a shetland and cob together?
How do you go about ensuring the shetland doesnt overeat, but make sure the cob can eat enough? Have strip grazing set up.
Any thoughts please.
Thanks

it’s easy! They pretty much need the same diet, low calories, high fibre. My cob and mini are the best of friends. The mini gets away with murder though and I don’t think the cob has ever rolled without the mini jumping on him once he’s down :)

When I first introduced them the mini had a pen with one strand of electric at the top. He could go under, but the cob couldn’t, so he could always get out of the way.

Great idea about the electric at the top. Will do that when introducing.
Sounds like they get on well!
Do you do strip grazing or have a track?

I have a track in the summer only, which I move inwards every other day or so. When I’ve got so far in I put that back and start somewhere else so grass is there until Winter. They have hay all year.

I’m very lucky to have a Shetland that doesn’t look on fencing as a challenge and is pretty good about staying where I put him.
