I have a mini shetland which I have owned for two years. He was very timid when i got him and it has taken me quite a while to get his trust in me. He can be difficult with strangers but I have never had a problem catching him etc other than the first couple of weeks when he first arrived, he is 5. He had become friendly and loving and is an ideal companion for my gelding. However, he had his annual vacc jab a few days ago and since then his behaviour has changed. He has become reserved and a bit subdued and has suddenly got more nervous of being handled. He did seem a bit off colour the following day after his jab. Tonight I couldn't get near him to catch him to bring him in. Although he is nervous of the vet he has had injections before and I have never had him react like this. It was my regular vet and he barely noticed the needle going in. Anyone else had a horse react to a vaccination like this? Feel sad as we have gone right back to square one gaining his trust.:(
