How much should Shetlands drink a day in terms of buckets? My horses have been inside all day and the Shetland has barely touched his water. He has had soaked hay though because he's a fat git. When should I be worried?
WhoopsYou might need this moved, you've posted in Current Affairs!
Thanks. Yes, they don't really seem to be big drinkers like bigger horses.Whenever I’ve soaked hay mine drink next to nothing compared to when they get dry hay, they must get plenty of water from the moisture content in the hay.
One of my live out welshies has either discovered a spring or hasn't drank for 3 weeks. Fresh water every day. Multiple buckets of different colours to choose from. Wee wee is clear and plentiful. Its a miracle. Considering submitting her for scientific study.maybe its just a Shetland thing, my two mini's barely seem to drink anything either, they have a small feed of pink Mash in the evenings to get their vits and mins in and I make it as sloppy as I can so fluid is going in, all their droppings seem normal.
both turned out on strip grazed paddock from 07.30 - 15.30 then shut in yard / woodchip area with open access stable the rest of the time and ad lib meadow hay.
they like to Pee indoors and the bed is always very wet so they are definitely going.
