Shetland rugs???

Can anyone recommend where I could get very cheap medium and heavy weight turn out rugs for my shetland. Probably 2nd hand as I only want to spend up to £30.
I've looked at ebay, preloved, several online shops!

I am no help at all I am afraid - our mini Shetland is out naked and always has been - i checked her tonight and she is warm and toasty in the rug nature provided for her:o She has plenty of fibre and ad lib hay and plenty of shelter even though she is out 24/7 and is about 25 now :)

Shetlands have their own rugs:D
 
I got my Shettie's rug on ebay, brand new for £19. It's only a lightweight/no fill though, the only reason she has a rug at all is because she stands and sulks when it's raining :rolleyes: :o Last winter I got a medium weight for my youngster from Robinsons for £25, she's only a size 4ft3 and they also did smaller sizes than that. I've not been on their website for ages though but it might be worth looking?
 
Thanks for your replys .... My little guy only needs a rug because he is a rescue, I got him a few months ago and he has no weight on him at all, and lots of muscle wastage. Hes really struggling to keep himself warm. Hes getting lots of food and I'm building up his fitness. He does stay in occasionally. At the moment he has just gone into a stable rug underneath a light weight. I'm desperate to get him a med and heavy weight.
I don't want to spend too much because hopefully he will only need it this year if I can improve his condition over summer.
 
I bought a no fill and a medium fill from Robinsons in their sale, were about £19 each. They don't fit all that well though, for some reason the front bit on both is so long that they come down to his knees!
 
Have you looked at the Mark Todd Rugs, they are really nice, I got a LW for my Welsh A a couple of weeks ago and they are properly cut for small ponies. The Combo is a MW but the neck makes a big difference. It is slighly over your budget but worth a hunt around for.

Also, the Amigo Mio would be worth a look, I also got mine a LW and MW 1200D but they are pricey, I think the Mio'a though are well priced and fit really well.

Also - might be worth calling Denne Country stores, they had a few reduced small pony rugs that I looked through but they were all too small for mine but really can't remember what they had. 01525 270211

I get all mine from ebay, I managed to pick up a lovely rug for my shetty he is in only 3.9in/4ft rugs. It was only 12 quid with delivery, you just have to keep looking on there till a bargain pops up. Robinsons do a range of rug which go down to very small sizes, I have to rug mine up in extreme weather because since he started suffering with cushings he loses weight very quickly even though he does not appear to be cold, rugging him last year proved to me he needed a rug as he held his weight perfectly.
 
I have recently got the IV horse minaiture rugs for my little ones. They are the full neck combo ones and they were £87 for two including poastage ( £40 each ) so alittle more than you were wanting to pay but i can honestly say out of ALL ( and i have over 40! ) rugs ive had they are the best. They cover head to tail and with all this bad weather weve had they have not leaked or moved once. I would definalty invest your money on one. They fit perfect around the neck unlike other small rugs which are usually to big.
 
If you have 1 rug that fits, then get creative with making do with cutting up old duvets etc for underneath - cot duvets or small childrens ones are ideal. You need to put a roller or surcingle over the top.
If using a surcingle then a sponge or 2 from the £1 shop will be needed for the withers to lift the pressure off.
A big summer duvet in polyester fill would be ideal as you could make 2 or 3 under-blankets with them.

Depends on the shetland as with rugging any native. I rug my shetland as she gets an extremely thick coat and adores lying in mud/filth every night so her stomach hair is permanently soaking wet and actually gets matted which is so gross and very itchy for her. So I clip off her tum every winter which she absolutely loves. Because she has a little clip, she's old and has an athritic hip I rug her. Think that makes sense to do so!

OP, I bought mine off Ebay. Although have to say I hate it, it does the job but be careful of material/fleecy insides as it sticks to their coat and works it was backwards thus pulling on the chest. I have to take my ones rug off every day to pull it forward again. Try to get one with a shiny inner!
 
I rug my shettie when it's cold and wet - she's always happy to be rugged in this kind of weather though she's fine in crisp dry cold.
I found a little Weatherbeeta Landa freestyle rug for her which fits very well.
