Hi,
I am looking into purchasing some frozen semen from a warmblood stallion from the USA/Europe/UK to Ireland, to use next year. Please can someone tell me a bit more about how this works as I haven’t done it before. How much would it approximately cost? How is it stored? Can you store it in the container it comes in or if not how quickly does it have to get to a tank. How many straws should I order?
Thanks very much

you would need to find someone who can store it for you, first port of call would be your repro vet who will be inseminating your mare. they sometimes have storage tanks and may even store it for no cost if you are using their services. it will be transported in a dry shipper that will have to be sent back. the frozen semen can last for up to 10 days (this may vary, that's just from my experience) i have seen costs of £70-£120 to hire the shipper, expensive but they cost a small fortune and have to be 'charged' with liquid nitrogen. not sure on actual postage costs as it may vary from different countries. remember to factor in the return of the shipper.
