Does anyone have any ideas how much it would be to ship a horse to Australia...?
Also what the conditions are like for horses over there....is any part of Australia quite green - thinking of some of the doctor shows which used to be on TV always looked beautiful and green with lots of people riding horses?

Someone i know moved there but had to get rid of horses as she couldnt afford the shipping fee for them so im guessing its darn expensive.

Figure on £5K. I was out there in November in Melbourne and saw quite a lot of horses, however they seem to be kept well out of the major metropolitan areas, where most jobs are. By well out I mean a 2-3 hour drive. Also went to the Margaret River region which is 4 hours south of Perth. Very horsey country, but man the flies!!!!!!!! They actually import dung beetles to keep the flies down, but they hadn't when we were there and they drove me nuts...let alone horses. Unless your horses are young I would strongly suggest you let them stay in the UK. I got nagged to move out and "live the life" with my sister....what made them think I didn't enjoy my life in the UK??? Oz isn't all it claims to be. Temps get up to 35 deg C and everywhere has a water shortage. Think long and hard about it.

My OH half looked into it a few years ago (well NZ, but pretty close) it was about £5000, but that may have gone up. Some of Oz is green and there is a lot of riding out there. It depends where you go. Greenest round the edge and further south. Are you considering moving there then?

well apparently there is quite alot of money being put into Oz in the near future, all seems a little better really and they are after teachers - OH job....
Im just interested in finding out the bits and bobs about it...little sick of uk and prices of things at the moment
