Well in interesting day : very late times and very unpredictable weather! When we arrived it seemed to clear so walked xc and sj whcich seemed nice. Got on for dressage and the heavens opened!! I was very disappointed with my test but got a respectable 38

so no where near as bad as last week although it felt worse!
Then a quick change to sj. It had now stopped raining again but by the time I got to the warm up it started pelting it down and did not have a happy pony!! So we went in and completely fluffed up first fence and had 2 more down after that so 12 faults

I got back to lorry and decided to withdraw before xc as haddy was not happy and neither was I. The ground by this time was running water on top but solid below so the studs I used didn't help much and he was not confident on the ground as I found out in the sj where he put a couple of horrible strides in as he was too wary to take the fence on in his usual fashion.
A real shame but I feel I made the right decision and I don't fancy losing his confidence xc where he is so much fun!!
Sorry for such a long and boring report!! Hopefully next time weather will be better!

Shame about day, BUT very sensiable and good for YOU thinking of you and horse

Confidence is the most precious thing and it's something that lots of folk ignore, but once you've lost it, it's very very difficult to get it back for both you and horse

Have you a plan for your next outing???

Never mind, if it didn't feel right, you did the exactly the right thing by withdrawing. I'm sure Haddy wouldn't have minded and you've just saved him for another day.

This happened to me at Stockland Lovell one year, I was warming up for the SJ and the heavens just opened, Wylye just turned his bottom to the rain and we stood there until it passed, all my lot (mum, dad, trainer) were all stood under Wylyes rain sheet!!!

I went into the ring and there were huge puddles everywhere. Have to say though, I did run xc.
My trainers other half then proceeded to try and dry my clothes using his car heater

Where is your next one?

Withdrawing was prob the best option. IMO it is dangerous to go XC if you are not 100% committed. It's good to know and trust your horse and listen to what he tells you.
