Sadly, Brickfields Horsecountry, here on the sunny Isle of Wight, is shortly to close as a tourist attraction. Since it opened back in the '80's, it's been rated as one of the best family friendly attractions over here, but, after a bereavement and a change of direction, the Shires, miniatures and a huge amount of carriages and assorted driving equipment will be going under the hammer in May
.
As our little Island is just a dot, many, many people won't hear about it. All of the Shires are 'work' horses and some of the carriages are quite spectacular. I did try and and get some ball park figures out of our farrier (one of the co-owners) this morning but he wasn't parting with any glints at all!
I think it's Southern Auctioneers doing the sale itself, but just googling Brickfields should show you their site. Lots of people get put off coming here for horses etc, because of the ferry, but travelling off-peak can save loads.
I have no connection to Brickfields Horsecountry, therefore not advertising, but thought this would be a good way of letting people know what's about (maybe if you're looking for a horse drawn hearse etc, lol)
