My lad has had his muzzle on for seveal months now and has done a fantastic job regarding his weight but it has rubbed all of his face, his nose, mouth, jaw. I cannot take it off him as this is the only way to restrict his grazing!
Has anyone else had this problem, and has anyone put anything on the muzzle to prevent it rubbing?
Any help would be great, thanks.

how about buying some of those cheap fleecy noseband covers and glue-ing them onto the inside of the straps that are rubbing?

oh yes, I've had one on ponio for a good two months now and it's rubbed him quite badly.
I applied sudocrem onto the rubed bits, and bought two spare muzzles so i can change them over daily and prevent one bit getting rubbed all the time.

fleecy material wrapped around the whole thing

be careful, my mare had a rub and so she itched it and caused a big wound on the side of her face. TBH if you're finding its creating bald patches I would leave the bald patches to heal before you put the muzzle back on again

I would if I could but I don't want to risk them not healing for a while and for him to gain weight again, as he still needs to loose some and he is in two large fields, and I am unable to fence him off or bring him in to the stable.

ETS: it was were the flash joined the noseband. He has thin TB skin and worked a treat. Luckily doesn't rub anymore

Yeah I will try the vasaline and sudocrem, the sudocrem really helps when he gets sunburn, even though he hates the stuff.

Thanks all

Glad Im not the only one who just duck tapes stuff on! I cut up an old fleece rug that had been semi-anihilated, and taped it onto the muzzle straps. May also have to do the headcollar I have to put on over the top to stop him removing the muzzle - everything rubs his wimpy arab skin!
