I came across these by accident on another forum's link, I've never actually seen them at my local saddlers or any other as it happens and didn't actually know Shires produced saddles, or were produced for Shires by another saddle company.

I just wondered if anyone knows much about them, from the pictures some of them look rather nice for the price, but then that's just from looking at the photos, no idea about the quality etc but for new leather saddle you can't complain...if they are ok.

Anybody used/bought one?

Is it really possible to get a new leather saddle which is half decant at a 'budget' price...lets say under £800.00 or are they not worth even looking at? do you believe it's better to buy a more expensive second hand saddle because your getting more for your money at the end of the day and they hold their price? (if for example both fitted equally as well).

Just wondered what your thoughts were and what 'budget' leather saddles you have bought or come across/ridden in and actually been pleasantly surprised with.

I like the Pigmalion one myself.

My saddler recommends the Kent Masters leather saddles made by the Thorowgood people; OK she sells them but she also handmakes saddles and has VERY exacting standards. If she thought they were c**p she wouldn't touch them!

My saddle was £650 new, brown leather with suede seat and knee flaps. It's unbranded as it was from a range that my saddler makes, but he's got a good reputation and I wouldn't hesitate to have another saddle off him. That was about 4 years ago tho! My mum has had two 'made-to-measure' (1 was blatantly off the peg then just re-adjusted, the other was again by my saddler and does actually fit) and they were both less than £1000.

If the saddle fitted and was in good condition I'd have nothing against a second hand one if I was after a 'posh' saddle.

They seem reasonably priced, and that is for a good reason. I really would not buy one.

I bought an "event" and it was fanstastic for the price. They are made in Argentina, that's why they are cheap. The leather is very good quality for the price and the workmanship is perfectly good. The only complaint I would have is that the tan colour is orange and stays orange even when it's oiled. Barnstormers are good people too, I have bought from them.

they are lovely quality, I have seen many and know people who have used them. I think that the new Performance ones are best as they are made from english leather and the quality is really top notch.
