I'm shopping around for a new combo rug and come across the Shires Tempest 180 turnout rug however, there are 2 reviews on the site that indicate that they rip easily.

Is this the case? I have no experience of Shires rugs at all so any advice would be a big help.
Ta.

I have 3 lw shires tempest rugs without neck & they are brilliant. I also have 3 HW's with necks also been fab. Would def recommend them :)

I've been happy with my summer one. Had it 2 summers now. Also I think my 180g is the same. Fabby rug So much so I bought the winter one. Did go for the more expensive denier tho
If there isn't much difference in
Price for the amigo 1200(bravo) I would chose that one as the outer is much stronger!!!
Ps if horse was living out I would still go for at least a 1200 denier as it is stronger but also more waterproof!!
Oops sorry for the essay!

My horse is a complete rug destroyer, he managed to rip the whole bottom section of the tempest rug off (I think he got his leg under a strap when rolling) rug now repaired and straps tightened and it's as good as new, there are no other tears at all on it so I would say it is pretty good, hes had it nearly a year, lived out in it for a while and other than the initial disaster it fit really well and he hasnt managed to break it again.....yet!!:)

Shires Tempest Lites are what I use for the hairy beast, summer and winter. He is a rug wrecker - he demolished a brand new Amigo rainsheet in the space of 24 hours a couple of years ago (we think because he objected to being kitted out in pillar box red...). So far, the Tempests have held up really well to all his antics, I think they're the best budget rugs around. One's a year and a half old and he wore it through last year's hurricane, the other's new this year because I liked the other one so much. I alternate them, to give them a chance to dry out.

And they're 100% waterproof, even after 24 solid hours of rain :D

Loved mine :)

100% waterproof in the worst of rain, it did get ripped though (mind you I had a rug ripper in my field that chomped through most makes of rugs)

I've had 3 for daughters pony in various sizes, the outgrown one looked new when I sold it. Plus, while she's about average in terms of tears, she has a habit of playing in puddles, sometimes they look like the rug has been stamped in a puddle, yet none needed reproofing so far. However she only got rugged at wkend after clipping, so although out 24/7 they're only used for a small part of the year.

I bought the 100g combo Tempest this year and was very impressed with it for the price! I did have to go up a size for her chest (ISH) but it is the best fitting rug that she has. (the rest of her rugs are Weatherbeeta/horseware/Mark Todd)

i've got the Shires tempest high neck and this is all the big lad currently wears (only at night). Its ace, super water proof and still going strong, no rips (but he is not a rug destroyer - far to polite for all that nonsence).

Love the high neck much better than a standard neck and without the hassle of a full neck!

I have my 2 18 month old geldings kitted out in these, I really rate them. Excellent fit, waterproof and warm. The adult ponies also have them, They have stood up to wear and tear very well, theirs are about 2 years old and not yet patched. I have barbed wire fences and they have been no worse than any other 600D rug.

I would definitely recommend them.

Love them - they fit, they're waterproof, and they're very, very good value. No rips so far, despite lots of wear! Until I have a lottery win it's Shires all the way for me.
