Shivers?

Hi guys

My friend suspects her horse has shivers - She often snatches up her hinds when you pick them up and occasionally kicks out for no reason (ballet like), and she always has her tail up a bit and doesn’t have the ability to clamp it down.

She also fell down yesterday in the stable block when she was made to back up.

Does anyone have a horse with shivers? If so, is there any feed supplements which help? What's the prognosis?

Hi there, it sounds like shivers, my friend had a horse that was a shiverer, it showed mainly when he was being shod, however in the school he could perform great lateral work and had a beautiful and easy extension in all paces so it never actually affected his performance as far as I know.

Yes our grade b is a shiverer. He lifts his back legs up really high and almost "shakers ur hand". When walking he will sometimes snatch iy up and shake it.
Also dont know if this is in his head but if you tell him off he will do it also.

I believe it is connected to EPSM and can be greatly improved with careful diet and management. Have a good Google into EPSM and read the work of Dr Beth Valentine on www.Ruralheritage.com. She is based in America and is one of the worlds leading experts on this.

Good luck
