Just a quick one! I want to order some shock absorbing stirrup irons and don't know what size I need, my feet are size 8, I guess 4 and 3/4? I don't have any here to compare :-(

One cant do this quickly. You need to measure across the widest point of your boot. Then add the margin for safety - on which opinions differ. I add half an inch or 2 cm. That's the inside width of the tread. If there is rubber covering the spring on a stirrup you may need more. Then you have to match that to the sizing of the brand of stirrup.
I know it is a nightmare because I once ordered Sprenger shock absorb stirrups as a gift for a friend and they were too small. If you are buying on line and the measurements are not given on a chart, you may need to phone up and ask someone to measure the stirrups for you.
