I am posting this on behalf of a friend and I am not sure if I have all the right info but any help appreciated. Her 18 yr old horse had damaged his superifical tendon and the tendon sheath is inflammed. There is also some damage to the 'branches' going in to the foot (sorry no more details on what this means). The vet has suggested anti-inflammatory injections or shock wave treatment. Any pros and cons of these? Does the age of the horse matter in terms of which one might be more effective? Many thanks

I have a post further down about the same treatment if it helps have a look at my responses.
Im unsure what treatment to go for as well.
My boy also has soft tissue damage in his foot as his hoof conformation is poor we are dealing with this issue with remedial shoeing and possibly steroid injections

a horse where i work has shock wave treatment nearly every time he goes lame for his tendon problem and he is 18 going on 19 and copes ok

just thought id share

My horse has had anti inflammatory treatment and three lots of shock wave treatment for a collateral ligament injury appears to have helped but it is very early days as we box rested for three months and are now into the ninth week of walking under saddle and five minutes of trot each day. It will be next year before we really know if the ligament is healed totally. Horse is ten years old. Shock wave cannot do any harm.Lots of info on the web about it.
