Feeling a bit sorry for myself !! After loaning my boy for 18 months last night i fell off him for the first time! He spooked and we parted company - I object to head butting the ground but hey, I only got some bruising so these things happen.......
Today went for a hack, we had to turn around for a tractor so went trotting back to a driveway to let him pass, he shot onto the gravel, totally lost his footing and fell completely on his side trapping me underneath !!! He stopped himself from rolling on me, bless him I really feel he tried so hard not to land on me and he got straight back up. We were both very shocked but once we assesed he was sound I walked him the half hour or so long long walk back to the yard - and he was so good walking in hand, just stopping for the odd snackette en route!!
Hosed his legs for ages and covered his side in arnica but he seems absolutely fine! Very surprised as he went down so hard but walked him and trotted him up and seems sound! Tonight went back to check him and he was a bit wide eyed but think it was just the adrenalin still pumping round so fingers crossed he will be ok !! He's 26 but a pretty tough guy!
I on the other hand have a very painfull twisted knee, and am pretty battered up but the worst thing I got was a huge blister from my boot by the walk back!!
Has anyone else had their horse fall like that? I mean we weren't even going fast, we were barely trotting!!! And it wasn't a health thing like blacking out or anything he really did just literally loose all four feet on the gravel!!!
Sorry pointless post just sitting here feeling a bit worried about him and a little sorry for myself !!
