Shocking horse

Was wandering if anybody had experienced this before. I went to ride horse this morning so took rugs off and gave her a brush but everytime I touched her she got a static shock. Obviously she didnt like this and wasent keen on being touched again

! I eventually got near her again tonight and it happened again and shes been out without a rug on all day. I am a bit confused as to why this happened presume its static from the rug but she has worn it heaps and it hasent happened before so am a bit

Hm. Any changes to wiring in stables etc? Have you done anything different in your routine at home or with your car?

Were you wearing new wellies? I always get shocks off the horses when I'm wearing wellies.

It sometimes happens to my horses. They both have rugs with nylon linings and when they are dry ( both unclipped ) and the sun has been out the same thing happens. It is a build up of static electricity. It happens in the summer with their fly rugs too. Shocks me as much as them! I find it happens most if they have had the rugs on for a long period. I try to make sure that if I hear that crackle when the rugs come off I touch something else before I touch the horse again!

Yes I get it sometimes from Crop, the way to stop it is to brush her with one hand and keep your other hand on her body. The static does not build up so does not shock her. I have no idea why it happens though

MrsMozart nope havent changed anything wiring or routine etc.

Flames_slave I was wearing wellies but always wear them and never happened before.

TicTac glad to hear Im not some sort of elctricity conducting werido lol! Thought it must have been rug but was odd it happened again at night with no rug on.

I somehow zapped my mare on the end of her nose with my hand when I was going to catch her and she took major offence and was a cowbag to catch for at least the next 6 months and then the odd time for the next...well up till now lol

Yes I get this - its usually when I have been brushing my girls with one of those "flicky" brushes. I have a couple of times managed to zap my one girl on the nose and face - and she was most unimpressed with me - bless her!

yep it happens to me in the summer,
i only have to touch her and i zap her!
