Shocking..PLEASE PLEASE

Whilst the horse images and reports from Egypt are indeed shocking, please remember that Egypt is a developing country. Many developing countries have standards for animal (and child and women) welfare and management far, far below what we BELIEVE we have in this country so those pictures are often the norm. Note, what we BELIEVE we have in this country. What shocks me is that these images can shock people into making a donation whereas these SAME STANDARDS that are occuring in the UK to some poor horses every day of the bl**dy week, every week of the bl**dy year get ignored. There was a post on f/b just days ago about a coloured cob handed in to one of the equine charities in the Bristol area and it was 1/3rd of its proper weight and the charity had never, ever seen a horse so appallingly close to death from starvation. Jamie Grey horrors, and worse, go on left right and centre in this wonderful animal-loving country of ours. Please people, remember that charity starts at home. And if you do feel moved to make a donation to the Egypt horses, put the same amount into the collection box your local tack shop will have on the counter for UK starving and abused horses.

While I agree that there is also cruelty happening in this country, it is certainly not on the scale of that in countries such as Egypt, and there are support systems available here, whereas it is much more difficult in countries such as Egypt.

Personally I am happy to support welfare abroad to help out equine friends, suffering is suffering, whether on your doorstep or not. Helping and educating those less fortunate than ourselves shouldn't be restricted because we don't live there imho.
