Not for the squeamish, horse arrives at rescue, hoof falls off completely, rescue won't consider PTS

Please don't flame me for posting this if you are easily upset, there are two warnings.

Actually there are loads of upsetting blogs on there ATM

gosh that is awful

but i dont understand - the horse came into rescue looking healthy, so did this all happen when actually in rescue?!
maybe i am naive but i thought rescue was to help horses

That is so sad and WRONG. What I find most disturbing is the fact the horse came in looking healthy and in the latter pictures is simply skin and bones with no hoof! This is disgusting - these people should be reported if they cannot even afford food to feed their supposed rescues!

Someone posted this yesterday....Its disgusting poor horse should be PTS anyone could see that...(obviously the 'rescue' team are an exception!

That is awful, do they really think they are helping that horse.

I hope the welfare organisations over there are aware of this and are able to put the poor thing out of its misery. Why do some people feel the need to preserve life at all costs, can they not see what is the best thing for the animal.

Is everyone 100% sure the photos shouldn't be in reverse? With the healthy 4 hoofed horse being the after pic?? I just can't believe any rescue would let that happen, let alone photograph the evidence??

My god!! who are these people!!!??? the needs rescuing from them!!! what sort of place is this???? seriousy who are they, i will report straight away. this is just awful, the horse was in fine condition when arrived.

That would make more sense! I feel sick seeing that, and knowing (thinking) any rescue could allow this horse to get like this and suffer so badly. Surely not?

I don't think it matters whether the photos were reversed in time, I don't think the suffering that happened (is happening?) was/is justifiable on a humane basis. the poor beast should have been pts.

I saw the other post and I find this so upsetting. The pony is 26 and there is no evidence of ongoing veterinary treatment. What on earth has happened to him? He went in there not looking like a rescue case at all. There are photos of other horses on another thread at the same place whose deterioration since they went in there can be measured by the dates on the photos. And why on earth are the owners posting photos of this - is there some kind of perverted control freak thing going on there about keeping miserable horses and ponies alive when mercy should intervene? What on earth are the Americans thinking of not having some kind of regulatory agency to deal with this sort of situation?

Yes, the photos in the posts are the right way round. It seems that there are a lot of 'Rescues' in the States, where the horses end up worse off than before they were rescued.

(I look at FHOTD most days. Some of it is sickening, like the above, some of it is amusing, and some is very educational, especially regarding conformation).

It is in America, the pics are the right way round.

It is a different culture over there, lots more people have horses, even those on very low incomes, in the backyard or lot sometimes, anyone can set themselves up as a rescue.

It was flagged up after the rescue asked for money, supplies to be donated to help this horse and others.

Somebody please tell me that poor horse has since been PTS. Unbloodybelievable that they would leave a horse to suffer with a foot that bad.

yesterdays thread for those interested.

for those interested in what the diff bone are in the pics these 2 forums have drawn lines on the photos. The farriers forum is concerned about the possible lack of/degradation of one of the tendons.

Unfortunately it also appears that the people involved in this 'rescue' are also the local animal control (fox watching hen house scenario) When I checked the forums yesterday it seemed that emails were going to the state veterinarian whom they also have to refer to.

The vet who was supposedly caring for this animal has now had her details removed and given the lack of foot there is little a farrier can do is there.

The dates of the photos were found using google cache I think so they could tell when they were uploaded. There is also disturbing weightloss since the arrival of their other 'rescues'

This would not be the first instance of this in the US where some rescues appear to use the horses to make money and the money doesn't make it to the horses.

would also like to add growth of new hooves has happened before, in UK I think but at a veterinary hospital horse in a sling not weight bearing.

This poor horse is likely to get a massive infection, is very undernourished and is never going to have the nutrients required to build new hoof.

It is being walked on its foot, they are leading it out to grass.

Thanks for that, apologies, I hadn't been aware that it had already been linked here until this morning x
A bump wouldn't do any harm though

Can't believe they are walking it. I don't like to anthropomorphise, but how would they like to walk along on a bloody stump?!

jeeeezus christ, please please someone tell me they are going to shoot the 'rescue' people and then put the poor horse out of his misery. he looked find when he went in there. jeeeezus. absolutely speechless here. i think that's one of the worst things i have ever seen in my entire life.

cavecanem, am not sure that many people saw the original thread anyways, I spent half of yesterday reading through all the posts on the other forums to see what was being said and the more I read the more the situation deteriorated.

Poor horse is 25, doesn't deserve that at all and I do think he is being used as a pawn for donations or the people are completely deluded.
