My horse has had an SI/back problem since the Summer when his field friend was caught in his leg straps of his turn out rug. This is complicated by the fact that he has bilateral psd and SI issues are well documented as secondary to this.
He has been having regular Chiro treatments and consistent work to strengthen his back and SI which was going well untill this week. I don't know if it's his work or the fact that he's been hoolying around in the wet muddy field but his back has become sore again. So the vet is coming next week to inject his SI with steroid and start shockwave to his lumbar area.
Has anyone got any positive stories to give me some hope as right now I feel very down. He's been on off lame virtually all year and I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel as anything but an oncoming train

I know how you feel. Went through it a while back with one of mine. A year of physio, 3 shockwave sessions, 5 infrared sessions, steroid injections and 2 courses of cartrophen injections. And nothing! NO improvement!
So we bit the bullet & sent her to a rehab yard to use their aqua treadmill for a month. Best thing we could have done, and if i had my time again, I'd go down that route first. The insurance paid for the treatment, but not the livery.
Good luck with yours. I hope it works for u x

Mine had shockwave and steriod injections. The first time we saw a huge improvement, but not 100%. Had a 2nd & 3rd treatment and still not better. I went down the route of physio and inhand rehab to get her fit and she did return to full work.

Try it, but be aware it's very expensive and the SI is such a deep area, the success is limited as you cant get the needle into the exact area. It's more a case of flooding it with steriods.

Thank's for your reply Dollydolls. Tbh I am hoping for the same as you really as fully expect physio and work to do the job of keeping him sound. Hopefully the injection and shockwave will be the catalyst to start the healing though. Fingers crossed. I'm waiting for the vet as I type........

YandC I did see the thread and I posted about looking into one also :D Did you hear from them at all? I am still waiting for a call back. I am interested to know how you would attach it to the horse's back? Also has my horses has bilateral psd I am wondering if you have to alternate treatments between legs as surely there is no way to treat both legs at the same time??? In the email I recieved from my initial enquiries they intimated that just having the machine on the horse (anywhere) would initiate healing all over!!!

My horse has had 2 lots of injections and physio - fingers crossed, 2 months from second injections and she is progressing well. Lots of raised pole work, long and low in school and on hacks if possible. Physio andvet both happy and 'signed her off'. Just started canter work. No toe dragging and defin itely swinging along now. I just need to be more confident now that she is not going to 'break' again!

Good luck and let us knwo how you get on - it has been very frustrating to say the least.
