Shockwave vs acupuncture.... Any thoughts?

I'm a fan of acupuncture after having had it on a headshaker and also on a very sore backed horse and would highly recommend it, and would have thought it would help muscle spasm. Best thing would be to contact the vet who would do the treatment and ask their opinion. The other alternative would be something like a sports massage - I had a horse with spasm around his right hand girth area and the equine sports massage sorted it out in a couple of sessions.

I agree that I don't think shockwave would be an appropriate treatment but stand to be corrected as what do I know eh?! :p

I have already been in contact with the acupuncture vet, got a response from (I assume without checking my emails) practise manager. As it was only a "vauge" enquiry I haven't taken it any further yet.

acupuncture does work very well with muscles in spasm.

Also to consider are physio, sports massage and any body work. Depends on the problem and if there is an underlying cause to the spasm.

Hope it goes well.

Thanks... we are 95% sure of the cause of the muscle spasm - accident a few years ago (probably never treated with physio), along with unbalanced hoof, causing incorrect compensation/movement by horse.

Of course there could be other factors, however, from investigation, and knowledge of the horse, these are the most likely factors.
