Hind shoe hanging on by 3 nails (all at one side) other side of shoe is hanging off - literally!

She is in her stable now, have called farrier (no ans so left a voicemail!)

I can't stable her as haven't got any bedding in (as she lives out) so she's just stood on her rubber matting with a haynet at the mo

Can i turn her out?

Pull it off!! I wouldn't turn her out with it as it is but similarly she could just as easily hurt herself turning in the stable- if it is as loose as you say it will be easy to wrench off

Agree with the others, try to remove this pronto. If not I'd try to get some vetwrap or something and keep it strapped on until the farrier comes. Definitely do not turn out or leave as it is.

You should find that it will come off easily though.

Can you not get the shoe off without making a mess of her foot or ask someone to do it for you if they know what they are doing etc?

You could leave her in for a few hours until you hear from your farrier she'll be fine with some food on rubber matting, is it hanging off on the inside or outside?

But then again horses loose shoes all the time in fields, if you bob some boots on her front and back legs and some bell boots on to reduce the risk of injury should she ping it off or lay down etc then it may just work its way off in the mud seen as its wet.

Pull it off!!! Get a flat headed screwdriver and prise the clenches up and then with only three nails in it should be easy to pull off. Use a forward/backward pulling motion and you should be fine. I would then turn straight out.

Nows your chance, you'll be fine just follow everyone advice like above, its not hard, so long as you dont tear it off and break the hoof, tap the nail heads back up and get some gripper things and ease them out, if there is a chance that the shoe will twist round then you really need to get it off in case she stands on it and punctures her foot or catches the other leg.

Ring someone as you doing it so they can talk you through it.

Wouldnt risk it myself- If the shoe is loose and has no nails in the wrong place I would vetrap and leave until the farrier got there if your not comfortable about removing it. You may get a punctured sole if you turn out like that.

Ask your farrier to show you how to remove a shoe should the need arise again. It really is something that everybody should learn - just in case.
