Shoe off, sensitive sole box rest or turn out in padded boot?

As you can gather my poor boy is going through the mill at the moment, bone spur, heat in leg etc. Different hoof now, off fore not near fore where the heat was but now gone. As intro.
Farrier back out this week, back woman coming out Monday, saddler following Friday, if still lame when he goes for his mouth x-raying I'll se if they can do a full work up as well. Just want him to be comfortable.

I am not a fan of box-rest and believe alot of conditions do better with controlled turn-out. I'd be included to put him out in a small area, preferrably on grass (if you've got any!) to bimble about and help keep swelling down.
