Many years ago I was told never to use shoe polish on tack.
While polishing my boots, that came back to me, but since when polished,
the shoe polish does'nt transfer to anything, why not?
Anyone got an thoughts on this?

Well......many, many years ago when I was a mere youngster the riding stables where I used to teach was run with a rod of iron by an old ex Army chap. He insisted that the top of all the saddles had to be cleaned with boot polish. So we did!!! I have used it on my saddles in the past with good results but these days with the new type saddles I don't.

I was always told that boot polish will cause saddlery leather to crack if used long term as it can be quite drying so isn't really safe to use. No idea if it's true or not and whether shoes have a different processing technique than saddlery that means they need different treatments
