Shoeing experience please (pics wanted)

I spoke to my farrier this morning to cancel as my road is a death trap and while i was speaking to him i told him how D has real trouble trying to walk on the hard rutted ground. When i got D his feet were terrible, long, out of shape, on his heels and very flat. We've got them looking good, but has taken 18 months, but he is still slightly flat footed. My farrier has reccomended pads to go between his hoof and shoe on his fronts to help cushion his feet and was wondering if any of you guys have had anything like this done to yours (i havent hence why i'm asking), what are your experiences of them (good/bad etc) and if you have any pictures so that i can see what it would look like. Thanks in advance.

Hi, not got any pics but my horse had a really bad abcess a couple of years ago and when she was recovering blacksmith put a pad under foot to stop anything getting in. It was basically a thin piece of plastic which went between shoe and hoof. Maybe a little different to what your blacksmith will use as for a different reason but from the front and sides etc you could not really tell that there was anything there. It is horrible for them when it is so cold and icy, mine all hate the hard rutted ground and are actually happy now it is snowy as they can canter round.

Sorry, I have pictures either. However, my endurance horse is shoed with equithane pads when competing over longer distances on stoney or flinty ground to protect his sole from brusing. It obviously adds to the cost of shoeing but works really well and the pads generally stay in well for the five to six week shoeing intervall.

my boy has raised pads in to help with his flat footedness but they dont cover the whole sole, the wedge has a frog support which is always breaking, we have quite stony ground, this time both of the wedges had broken within a week of him being shod and they were new in, the last set were broken at about week 5 out of 7 . he is a big lad tho and weighs a good 650kg and i have asked the farrier to find out about these (under vets advise): http://www.jimblurton.co.uk/en/products-for-farriers/graduated-bar-shoes/where-to-buy.php

mine has wedges in too - similar to one above - dont cover whole of sole though - they are for raising heels as collasped heels and she has navicular - touch wood i have never had a days lameness since.
