Hi,
I have recently got an arab x NF on loan and the owner told me she was fine with just her front feet shod, however she didnt get used much then and im riding her 3/4 x a week and have started to notice that she has become very sensitive when walking on hard, stoney ground, she slows right down and tries to get up onto verges etc to avoid it.

She is fine when we are on soft ground, very forward going and doesnt seem in pain at all. what do you think is the problem? do you think i need to get her back feet shod?

Let the farrier have a look and be advised by him. I know there are lots of horses who manage quite well without shoes but having been brought up with working horses in a blacksmiths shop i always think well shod horses do better [just a personal thing].

i spoke to her owner and she wants to see 'how she goes' before putting back shoes on her. however, the farriers coming out friday to have a look.

she doesnt seem to have sore sole though, i gently applied pressure this morning and she didnt even flinch!
