My boy (cob) been chucked out since hunting finished and looking at him now he's going to have shoes back on and worked next week, as he' getting so fat and my farrier said what with Laminitus he would be better hacking out a couple of times a week to keep fitter ive never done this with my hunters before but I think things are changeing and I do think he will be a happier horse for doing this as he likes to work.

Mum always found it easier to do this with hers.
A good 8 week off stint in Spring, then some gentle hacking and some fun rides to keep them ticking over, and to keep me company bombing around on the ponies!

I think each horse will re-act differently- but a bit of light work will save you lots of fittening come Autumn! :)

It works well for ours, we keep them reasonably fit all year and find it helps with keeping their legs hard too, so less worry early season about tendons!

Having said that, I've taken Ron's back shoes off this year but then I intend to leave them off if I can!
