My friends landie disco is at the end of the line, and it needs replacing. She's looking at an 04 V5 landie (doesn't like the new feel of the V6 - mad imho) or a 56 Shogun elegance. She wants the 3.5t towing capacity with 4wd. Whilst she knows where she stands re landie issues, she isn't familliar with the shogun, but we do know someone who has had gearbox issues with theirs (but this could be their driving for all we know). Anyone else got the 3.2l Shogun for towing?

I tow with a 52 3.2 Di-D automatic and love it. Was concerned about switching from a manual pajero to the auto, but need not have been. I do quite long trips, up to 6 hours, towing an IW505. Last long journey was from South Yorks to Sussex, so a mix of motorway and country roads. Horse travels well, and Shogun has good load carrying capacity - needed as we go away for 3-4 days at a time.
Am thinking about changing the whole set up for a lorry with living and a smaller car, purely because I'm fed up of sleeping in the trailer, and I need a smaller car for day to day use. But will be sad to lose the shogun!

I've got a shogun sport 3litre v6.

Fab for towing and everyday use.
I love it.
Never had any major issues, I've had to replace the exhaust and a bit of welding but its about 14 and still great for its age.

I have a 2.5 litre, double cab L200 before this and loved it too.

I have a 56 plate Di-D SWB Warrior 3.2 Auto, it pulls like a train and being auto is so smooooooth when towing. It pulls my 505 with two up without noticing. My (farmer) friend has the equivalent manual and he is a sheep farmer. He pulls a fully loaded twin deck sheep trailer with his and he has never had any problems. He lives two miles off the beaten track with a serious s bend descent/ascent, I have pulled my two up 505 up it with mine and he regularly pulls his fully laden sheep trailer up it. There are some people round here who refuse to drive it even empty. I have had a 4 trak and two discoverys and he has had a range rover , a Rexon, Discovery and a Navara and he still rates the Shogun. Would recommend.

I have a 2010 SWB 3.2 DiD manual, it's the remapped engine so is 196bhp and gets around 30mpg. Used every day to drive to work and tows like a dream, ifor 510 with 2 small horses.

Just had a recall for the timing chain tensioner, but was not found to have an issue. I think that there is a problem with the fuel pump on the earlier DiD engines and they can be expencive to fix not sure when they redesigned it to remove the issue. Also the pre 23rd (I think, check the dvla site) march 2006 is tax band k, after that it's higher (£440 ish a year) till they remapped the engine in 2010. I think 2006 was a face lift year as well.

We've got a LWB '09 Auto Shogun, a '56 L200 Auto Warrior pick up & a LWB '12 VW Transporter Manual.

All 3 are exceptionally good for towing and while the shogun can tow the most weight the Transporter is the most stable.
Love all 3 and would advise any of them. We use the transporter to pull our rather large caravan.
