Do any of you guys tow with any of the above?

I currently have a Landrover Disco which i want to get rid of and i really like the look of Mitsubishi Shogun's and pajero's.

Are they any good for towing one horse? It will obviously have to be 2.5ltr+ but a short wheel base as im sick of having a massive car!

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 2.5 SWB Pajero. Its pretty old - 1993, had it about 4 years and its been great. Mostly towed 1 horse but towed 2 horses on a couple of occasions. Never found it underpowered but I'm not sure it would be up to 2 heavyweights.

And when it snowed I had a great time overtaking all the heavier 4x4s that got stuck on the hills!!

I tow with a LWB Pajero (K reg) - bought on eBay! Been using it for 2 years and it does great.

I also have a K reg LWB Pajero and I love it. It is 2.5TD and very slooow accelerating, but I am a steady driver so that doesn't bother me. It tows 2 horses no probs - just slowly up steep hills. I love my car and will be very sorry when it 'dies' and will look for a Pajero to replace it.

Quick question I remember when I was looking at them years ago we couldn't get insurance for the pajero cos it was an import, have things changed? I know you tend to get more for your money with the pajero.

I would recommend the pajero. I have a 2.8TD SWB automatic (better ride for the horses!) It pulls up hills comfortably (two horses) has lots of mod cons and i love it! Insurance was ok as I used 7 years no claims on the policy. I would happily have either but would prefer a modern shogun. Only massive downside to report is the terrible fuel economy (or total lack of!)

Ha ha, I felt very smug, posh shiny Range Rovers with nowhere to go and me zooming by in my banged up Pajero!

Mine is an import and had no problems getting insurance - was insured with Tescos and now AQuote which I found online.

I think the new shogun can only tow up to 2.8T so if that is enough for your trailer + horses then you should be fine. Think the shogun has better fuel economy than the pajero.

I have just been looking at them as well as am looking for a towing car but I need something that can pull 3.5T (big heavy trailer).

I bought a LWB 2.8td 1996 Pajero, direct from the importer, found insurance on the Pajero Owners website, no more expensive than a Peugot 406. tows brilliantly, only downside is the dreadful fuel consumption - on a good week (ie no towing if I'm careful I get 24mpg on a bad week (ie towing two horses to events it can go down to 16mpg!) Road fund licence is £185 p/a. the Pajero Owners website has a really good forum - well worth a look if you are considering a Paj.

As far as I know the Pagero's and Shoguns are the same thing.

It depends I guess on the engine size/weight of the car and trailer/horses..

I have a Shogun 3.2 TD Auto SWB and it pulls my Ifor 505 with 2 large ponies in (approx 400kg each) really easily and we have some serious hills around here in North Devon.

They are the same vehicle. The one major difference will be the price as the Shogun will be more expensive to buy but then you will get more when you sell it.
