Shogun Sport info needed please.

Just reading the post about the towing jogged my memory.
Has anyone had any probs with the gearboxes on the Shogun Sport...or heard of anyone having probs? Mine is a 55 plate which I've had just over a year and the gearbox appears to need replacing - it has done around 24,000 miles so I'm not impressed. Typically it is out of warranty by 8 months and they want £300 to diagnose if it is a gearbox and if it is they want a further £3100 to sort it.

No idea re the problem but i really feel for you as that is v v expensive.
Im due to change my car in a few months and have been tempted to get a 4x4 so that i could possibly tow as i currently beg lifts from my friend in her lorry but it would be nice to have my own transport but fixing them seems so much more expensive!

I've got one - 03 reg that I've had from new. I've done almost 70k miles in it and haven't had any problems at all with the gearbox (but did have a blown head gasket & cracked cylinder head a couple of years ago).

Was the quote from a Mitsubishi garage??? I find them massively over-priced so get my car serviced etc. at an independant 4x4 garage and pay less that 1/2 what Mitsubishi quote. It's definintely worth getting a quote from another garage - now that you're out of warranty it doesn't matter who does the repair!!!

We have a '54 plate Shogun Sport, had it from new, and touch wood not had any probs, definitely not with the gearbox! It's done 60,000 miles now

I'd say you've had some very bad luck

I know someone who had gearbox trouble - hers was an automatic though, and was a fair bit older (W reg).

We have a 55 plate, done 30k miles, touch wood no problems yet apart from a bracket on the exhaust needed welding. That seems very very expensive,was it the main dealer price? My last car had problems with gear selection and it turned out to be the gear linkage which was a couple hundred pounds. Just a thought.
I would try googling shogun forum or something like that and asking on one of them. Ive had lots of advice for my car from specialist car forums.

I've got an 05 reg on 34K and no problems to date, I did some research before buying and there was no mention of common gearbox issues.

Thanks for the info...sorry didn't get back to you all sooner. It was a quote from main dealer. The car has now gone to a different garage for the work done so shall see what they say.
